Special presentation honoring Robert Keiter and Jan Nystrom of the University of Utah S. J. Quinney College of Law’s Wallace Stegner Center with Executive Special Recognition Pax Natura Awards for their enduring commitment to the environment through providing a forum of education, research and discussion on the topics of national resources and environmental issues. Wallace Stegner Center The Pax Natura Foundation wishes to honor Jan Nystrom and Robert Keiter of The Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources and the Environment which provides interdisciplinary opportunities for classroom and clinical education, scholarly and applied research, and public education in the areas of natural resources and environmental law and policy. The Center serves as an umbrella for several programs within the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, including its domestic and international environmental law curriculum and research activities.

In cooperation with other University of Utah colleges and other entities, the Center serves as a forum for multidisciplinary research, conferences, and collaborative educational opportunities related to natural resources and environmental issues. The Center hosts an annual symposium, which has explored such diverse topics as the life and legacy of Wallace Stegner, alternative energy, climate change, and the Colorado River compact. The Center also sponsors a noon hour green bag series that features local speakers, and evening lectures by noted authors, historians, conservationists, and others who address life in the American West.

Robert Keiter is the Wallace Stegner Distinguished Professor of Law and Director of the Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources, and the Environment at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. He holds a J.D. degree with honors from Northwestern University and a B.A. with honors from Washington University. He has taught at the University of Wyoming, Boston College, and Southwestern University, and served as a Senior Fulbright Scholar at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal. Professor Keiter teaches Natural Resources Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, and Federal Courts; he has received teaching awards from the University of Utah College of Law, University of Wyoming College of Law, and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Bob has written numerous books and articles and serves on multiple boards all with emphasis on public lands, ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation.

Jan Nystrom is the Associate Director of the Wallace Stegner Center for Land, Resources, and the Environment at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. She is responsible for managing the public programs sponsored by the Wallace Stegner Center, including its annual symposium, evening lecture series, noon-hour green bag series, and visiting young scholar program. She is committed to the role of the Stegner Center in facilitating public education and discussion about the most critical environmental challenges of our day. Before joining the Stegner Center, she spent more than 10 years as a professional communicator in both the forprofit and nonprofit sectors. She currently serves on the boards of two nonprofit organizations, the Utah Society for Environmental Education and the Entrada Institute, an outdoor education organization. 2010 Executive Special Recognition Pax Natura Award.
